Crafting the Final Impression: Harry’s Story

July 22, 2026

For this article we are highlighting our team member Harry, he is one of the longest-serving members of the Blackfields team, having been with the business for eight and a half years.

Over that time, he has become an indispensable part of the workshop, bringing a broad skill set shaped by experience across several industries and a degree in product and furniture design.

That design background has given him an attention to detail that has proved invaluable at Blackfields, particularly in Harry’s area of expertise: spray finishing. He takes the lead on the specialist finishes that give our pieces their final look and feel, allowing colours and finishes to be precisely tailored to each client’s wishes. Beyond aesthetics, spray finishing also creates an exceptionally durable surface and a smoother, more refined result than is possible with traditional painting techniques.

His work in the spray shop is also one of Harry’s favourite parts of the job. He loves the satisfaction of getting a job done and, as one of the final stages in the production process, spray finishing allows him to see a project fully come together. His pride in the finished result is evident in the high standard of every piece that leaves the spray shop. Harry has also enjoyed expanding his skills during his time at Blackfields, particularly learning how to operate the CNC machines we use for precise part manufacture. He enjoys seeing how using technology to innovate production processes can enhance traditional craftsmanship and produce bespoke pieces to the highest possible standard. Looking ahead, Harry is keen to become more involved in the drafting and drawing stages of projects. This was an aspect of his degree he particularly enjoyed, and he would love to further develop his skills in translating ideas into detailed designs.

One project that still stands out for him is a beautifully crafted fluted oak reception desk completed a few years ago. For Harry, it perfectly captured what can be achieved when intricate design meets Blackfields’ commitment to top quality craftsmanship. Outside of work Harry has a passion for heavy music, which spills over into his professional life as he can often be found rocking out in the spray shop, fully immersed in both the project and his own personal soundtrack.

Harry is an integral part of the Blackfields journey and we are excited to see him continue to develop and build his skills in all areas of furniture making!
